Last month, the distributor of Vaporware Omoda in Malaysia announced a recall of 600 Chery Omoda 5 cars because the rear axle could break and break. This is all the cars sold in the country.

Recently, a similar problem also appeared in Indonesia, causing Chery to decide to recall all vehicles sold there. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths related to the axle problem were reported.

Specifically, distributor Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) announced the recall of the Omoda 5 car model in the Indonesian market on May 14. The problem lies in the assembled components in the chassis system, especially the connection part.

A total of 420 Omoda 5 1.5T units (including Z and RZ versions) are affected in the Indonesian market.

Meanwhile, the `brother` model Omoda E5 (pure electric version) is not subject to this recall. This was confirmed by Mr. Zeng Shuo, Deputy General Director in charge of Sales and Marketing of CSI.

He shared with the website GridOto that the Omoda 5 GT version and the E5 model in this market use a multi-link suspension system, different from the recalled car model.

Recently, Chery in Australia also recalled 5,901 Omoda 5 units due to the risk that the bolts holding the brake hose connection may not be tightened enough, leading to brake fluid leakage and reduced braking performance.

Omoda 5s sold in Malaysia are all assembled domestically using CKD parts from Chery’s `super factory` in China.

The strange thing is that in Indonesia there is also a factory that assembles Omoda 5 in the same way as in Malaysia, so there is also an error with the rear axle components from China.

This recall has affected the marketing plans of the two brands Omoda and Jaecoo in ASEAN, including test drive events for customers in May and June.

Since Malaysia is Chery’s right-hand drive vehicle production center, vehicles produced here will be exported to markets such as Thailand, Brunei, Singapore and Australia.

According to the plan, this year, two brands Omoda and Jaecoo of Chery will be introduced to the Vietnamese market. In the first phase, these two brands will provide a total of 4 car models in Vietnam, including Omoda.

In addition, Geleximco Group and Omoda & Jaecoo Automobile Co., Ltd. (part of Chery Group, China) will begin construction and operation of an automobile manufacturing and assembly factory under the Omoda & Jaecoo brand in

This factory project will be implemented in 3 phases, with a total investment capital of up to 800 million USD.

In fact, Chery started selling cars in Vietnam since 2009 through cooperation with Hoa Binh Automobile Joint Venture (VMC). However, at that time, this car company could not convince Vietnamese consumers and was forced to
