Emergency, an Italian aid organization that runs a hospital in Panjshir, said the Taliban had arrived in the village of Anabah, where they run a surgery center.

`Many people have fled local villages in recent days. So far there has not been any interference in the organization’s activities,` Emergency said in a statement on September 4,

`We received a number of injured people at the Anabah Surgery Center,` Emergency added.

Analyst Bill Roggio of Long War Journal magazine in the US said the `atmosphere of war` still prevailed, with some information saying that the Taliban had captured many districts in Panjshir.

Both the Taliban and the resistance have suffered heavy losses in recent fighting in Panjshir – the only place in Afghanistan that has not fallen to the Taliban and is a stronghold of the resistance.

`The Taliban army has been trained after 20 years of war and has not made mistakes. The Taliban has trained an army. The Taliban armed forces captured a large amount of weapons and ammunition after the US withdrawal and

Spokesperson of the resistance movement Ali Maisam Nazary declared on September 5 that the resistance forces `will never fail`.

However, former Afghan vice president Amrullah Saleh, who is in Panjshir with Ahmad Massoud – the son of `legendary` anti-Taliban commander Ahmad Shah Massoud – said they were still holding out.

`We are in a difficult situation. We are being invaded by the Taliban. We have not surrendered and still resist them,` Mr Saleh said in a video posted to Twitter by a BBC World reporter.

Resistance forces are believed to possess significant weapons stockpiles in the Panjshir valley, about 80 km north of Kabul.

Celebratory gunfire rang out across Kabul late on September 3 as rumors spread that the Panjshir valley had fallen, although the Taliban made no official statement.

Several pro-Taliban Twitter accounts posted videos showing the new regime’s fighters taking control of tanks and other heavy military equipment inside the Panjshir valley.

However, resistance leaders denied that Panjshir fell into the hands of the Taliban.

`News about the capture of Panjshir is spreading in Pakistani media. It is a lie,` said Ahmad Massoud, head of the resistance.

The Taliban took control of most of Afghanistan on August 15.
