David de Gea: Is it time to say goodbye to Old Trafford?

David de Gea’s future at Man Utd is a big question mark, Man Utd’s vice-captain’s contract will expire at the end of the month when a new contract still shows no signs of being signed.

De Gea problem

Over 540 appearances in England since 2011, De Gea has made 17 errors leading to goals in the Premier League – the most by any Spanish goalkeeper in the competition’s history.

But given the number of matches this goalkeeper has played, is that too high a number?

When De Gea received the award, Roy Keane – who was at the forefront of his detractors – told Sky Sports: `United have to improve on last year, they defended so poorly.`

“I’ll move him quickly, De Gea.

That’s true, but the defenders playing in front of De Gea also don’t provide the stability needed to be able to seek another Premier League title.

Why continue to trust De Gea and maybe it will be rewarded?

The proof that De Gea is playing well is the fact that he is far ahead of the person ranked second on the best goalkeeper rankings.

It is clear to see de Gea’s influence on this team, however, fans also have great faith that Erik ten Hag has a vision for United and that a new keeper should come in and take over.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has been criticized, with some highlighting his mistakes, leading many to argue that De Gea is a problematic position that United must prioritize this summer.

From 2011 until now, David de Gea has been untouchable;

Signed for a British record fee for a goalkeeper of around £18.9 million, De Gea excelled at Atletico Madrid, where his goalkeeping coach Diego Diaz said in 2010:

Proving that statement correct, De Gea remains United’s No. 1 under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and – until now – Ten Hag.

De Gea’s decline in form has caused confusion.

The season has ended but there is no sign that De Gea has played his last match for MU.

But as he enters the final week of his contract, the United vice-captain’s future has become the focus of attention.

It seems they want to keep De Gea, but on significantly reduced terms.

It was reported that the Spanish goalkeeper had agreed to drastically reduce his £375,000-a-week salary – but the club did not sign the contract.

De Gea pledged to stay at Old Trafford as long as he wanted, but a subsequent offer with an even lower salary is now testing his resolve.

De Gea has every right to ask questions about how these final months have gone.

Why does Ten Hag want a change at No. 1?

When Ten Hag arrived a year ago, many people thought De Gea was not suitable for the Dutch teacher’s playing style.

United have made initial contacts with Inter Milan over Andre Onana, and have considered Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Ten Hag still wants to build a squad with a way of playing that develops the ball slowly, starting with the goalkeeper. Fans still remember how Said Benrahma’s shot beat De Gea in the loss to West Ham, who

Then there was criticism of Ilkay Gundogan’s second goal in the FA Cup final against Man City.

In important moments, in important matches, is De Gea a player of big matches?.

Erik ten Hag has publicly supported De Gea many times.

This summer, Man Utd has many things to solve.

There was hope of adding at least one new striker, with Man Utd still interested in Atlanta’s Rasmus Hojlund following initial contacts between the two clubs.

The transfer budget is expected to increase through sales of players  such as captain Maguire, Fred, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial.

However, right now people are concerned about how the number 1 position left by De Gea will be resolved.

Is De Gea the key to a top 4 spot or will another goalkeeper help this team close the gap with Manchester City?

De Gea has played a lot and shown his influence, but there are still many other problems that make his future with MU a question mark.

Of all the problems that Manchester United need to solve, finding an answer to the goalkeeper position next season is probably the most important priority right now.
